KÔR Pilates
About
KÔR Pilates, an Eco-Friendly studio, backs up to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands and Pacific Coast Highway, giving us that amazing, fresh ocean breeze for our open air group Pilates classes and private sessions.
Our Story
Founded in Huntington Beach in 2006, we believe in living a life full of joy, gratitude, and being the best version of yourself possible. These feelings inform and guide our core teachings and practices at KÔR as we focus on helping clients better connect to their body through mindful movement and wellness. We offer a variety of services such as private Pilates, small group Reformer classes, workshops, wellness/nutrition support, and more to help each of our clients achieve healthier bodies and minds. It is our goal to help you be the best version of whom you are meant to be in this world. We believe that starts with moving well and feeling great...from the inside and out!
Our team of instructors is mentored and chosen by Rebecca, Founder of KÔR Pilates. Most of our instructors, if not all, have gone through the comprehensive training course through BASI (Body Arts & Science International). We hope you are encouraged by our team who feel it is their calling to lead fellow humans like you on a journey. A journey of mindful, intentional movement...movement that heals and awakens the body/mind/soul to its limitless possibilities.
"mens sana in corpore sano"
a healthy mind in a healthy body.
All this comes to you in an eco-friendly environment. Not only does KÔR love the earth but we love all the creatures and people in it too and want them to be healthy and safe. We have done this since the very beginning, way back in 2006, before it was even a thing. Our walls have VOC-free paint; making indoor air quality safe to breathe, our floors are made from a renewable resource, cork; using non-toxic water-based glues, and our studio has been remediated for EMFs. We use the least toxic cleaning products whenever possible that are still approved for coronavirus. More importantly, we are always re-evaluating what is best for the current needs of our clients, always outweighing risks and benefits of each product
About Our Founder
Rebecca is the founder and owner of KÔR Pilates. She has been teaching movement since 2001. As a Personal Trainer, she stumbled upon Pilates through a knee injury while training for the Camp Pendleton Mud Run. After Rebecca was quickly rehabbed through Pilates she decided to learn how to teach this amazing philosophy of movement to others, including her personal training clients at the time. She had the opportunity to learn from master instructor Rael Isacovitz, Founder of BASI (as well as Constance Holder), and was certified to teach Pilates in 2005. Pilates not only allowed Rebecca to jog without pain but Pilates also helped her improve her scoliosis and later, have three safe, healthy, active pregnancies...all resulting in unmedicated, peaceful homebirths.
Rebecca's fascination with how the body moves and functions inspire her to continually seek out different perspectives. She strongly believes that HOW you move your body is one of the most important factors in a successful exercise routine; especially in the prevention of injury. Because of this, proper technique is a large part of her teaching style, thus, a huge part of KÔR's philosophy as well.
Rebecca is passionate about helping women through all stages of life; childhood, motherhood, and beyond. Rebecca strives to live a holistic life and believes that in addition to consistent, mindful movement, nutrition plays an important role in how we feel, both physically and mentally. Because of this, she often offers Health Workshops at KÔR on topics she feels would benefit the community. Rebecca's favorite Pilates moment is when she met and learned from Lolita San Miguel, one of only two people in the world that was officially certified by Joseph Pilates, himself. Not only is Lolita an icon in the Pilates world, but she is also born of Puerto Rican parents who grew up in both Puerto Rico and New York, just like Rebecca's mother.
As Rebecca continues to observe movement, teach movement and create movement, Rebecca is forever grateful for her mentors along this Pilates journey that has now become so much a part of her life and now a part of her daughters' lives as they learn proper movement through Pilates and can apply it as they explore ballet, acro, aerial silks, flamenco, and many other activities. Besides Pilates life, Rebecca loves spending time with her husband and 3 daughters...playing, learning, living, and soaking up God's beautiful earth while hiking, beaching, or flying high in the sky on a ropes course or a trapeze.
